The beautiful panoramic breath-taking views and architecture make it easy to spend hours up in the sky on top of Babadag mountain. What once was just a paragliding take-off zone has now been turned into a popular attraction benefiting the local economy.

How do I get to the main station?

The main station is a popular stop for all forms of transport. You can arrive at the station by car, taxi or dolmus (local public transport minibus).

Dolmus would be the cheapest option departing regularly (up to every 5 minutes in busy tourist months) from popular locations such as Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü, and Fethiye.

You buy dolmus tickets when you board the minibus, it only cost me less than £1 to get to the main station from Ölüdeniz beach (disclaimer – prices of September 2023).

Alternatively, if you have a private or rental car there is a big car park at the main station for visitors.

Where does the cable car depart from?

Use your purchased ticket to enter through the main station turnstiles. When inside the station you will follow the signs to the cable car.

There are stairs, escalators, and lifts to make reaching the cabins accessible.

Departing from the main station is the first stop at 1200m. At 1200m there is an Anatolian Restaurant and a concert stage.

The open-air theater has concerts on throughout the summer months (check the website for upcoming events).

You can either exit the cable car at the 1200m station to use the facilities or stay onboard to reach the highest point of the cable car, 1700m. If you decide to get off at 1200m you can still continue your journey higher or you can decide to go back down to the main station with your valid ticket at the turnstiles.

NOTE – be sure to get onto the correct side of the station depending on if you are wanting to go up or down.

Free WC facilities, and children’s play area are available.

STAGE 2: 1700m Cable Car

RECOMMENDED TO REACH AT LEAST HERE!

From 1200m you will reach the 1700m cable car station.

At this altitude is where the main paragliding take-off zone is. As soon as you exit the turnstiles you will get a great sense of the paragliding atmosphere especially during the peak of the paragliding season during the summer months.

A bridge over a biological pond connects the cable car station to the 1700m facilities.

The 1700 Grill & Wine Bar is a stunning piece of architecture built into the mountain side. The restaurant allows you to watch the paragliders up close as there is outdoor tables right on the edge with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea coastline road to Oludeniz beach and the UNESCO listed famous Blue Lagoon.

If you don’t want to sit in the restaurant, you can simply watch the paragliders take to the sky for as long as you desire at the observation terrace.

There is something so amazing about watching people run off a mountain with their life in the hands of a parachute and the pilots expertise, it is also a good chance to watch if you are debating booking for your own tandem paragliding experience!

On the other side of the mountain to the take off zone are breathtaking views of the vast Muğla mountain range.

Many visitors didn’t venture to the observation terrace and just headed towards the Grill & Bar, so be sure to visit the observation deck as the panoramic views are not worth missing!

STAGE 3: 1800m Chairlift

If you want to gain greater height and you’re not afraid of extra adrenaline then continue to the chairlifts.

It is included with a valid return cable car ticket and will first take you to 1800m. The chairlifts offer a more open, clear view of the vast landscape.

You can see the ghost village of Kayaköy sandwiched in-between the beauty of Ölüdeniz and the urban sprawl of Fethiye town integrating with the urban sprawl of Çalış.

Kayaköy is recognised as one of the top 10 best-preserved ghost villages in the World!

If you want to explore the abandoned village of stone houses on foot then there are expert local guides that will take you back in time.

TOP TIPCheck the weather conditions at the top of Babadağ, it will be cooler than at sea level so it is a good idea to pack an extra layer. Also, if you have a choice of a few days to go up Babadağ then be sure to pick a clear day, if you can, to make the most out of this experience!
